Junior GAFFA

August 18, 2008

On Tuesday 12th of August the Prep Unit and the ‘Miles Per Hour’ band performed at this year’s Junior GAFFA production.  This night was an opportunity for students from local schools to show their talents in singing, dancing and performing.

The Prep Unit performed ‘Love is all around’ and did a brilliant job of spreading the love, while the ‘Miles per hour’ rock band stunned the audience with their talent!  Have a look at the following pictures from the night:

Geelong City District Athletics Carnival

Last Thursday, 105 Middle and Senior students travelled to Landy Field to compete in the Geelong City District Athletics Carnival. Competing schools were Mandama, Leopold, Torquay and Bellaire. We had some fantastic results throughout the day with all students giving their very best. Some students were fortunate to receive ribbons for top three places. The Bellaire team for the Zone athletics carnival will be announced in the coming weeks. The Zone Carnival will be held on Tuesday 16th September at Landy Field. Congratulations to all the competing students for your efforts, achievements, sportsmanship and wonderful behaviour. All the teachers were proud to say they were associated with the Bellaire team! It was lovely to receive a kind email from a parent which highlighted the behaviour and conduct of our students. An honourable mention needs to go to Emily (SB) for her sportsmanship in the 800m. A Leopold competitor fell and Emily stopped running to assist her before continuing on in the race. This shows true sportsmanship so well done Emily! Thank you to Mrs Johnson, Miss Brebner, Miss Murfitt, Mrs Norton, Miss Simpson and Miss Brown for your assistance and co-ordination on the day. A special thank you to Sue for giving up her valuable time to teach our relay teams prepare for their event. We had a lot of success in the relays and it was great having someone with Sue’s experience to teach us. We were overwhelmed with parent support on the day which was a big help in co-ordinating events and student management. Thank you to Liz, Peggy, Sally, Sally, Julie, Dianne, Julie, Kel, Leanne, Noreen, Jackie, Peter, Sally and Mandy.

Mrs Jeffreys – Middle and Senior PE/Sport.

Buckley’s Entertainment Complex

Buckley’s Entertainment Complex are proudly support initiatives that encourage student participation in physical activity. We were fortunate to be one of 37 schools in the region selected to receive free sporting equipment courtesy of Buckley’s. We received three footballs and three netballs. Thank you to Buckley’s for their support and donation.

Kick Around Australia Day

On Friday, the whole school got into ‘footy fever’ to participate in ‘Kick Around Australia Day’. The day was a nationwide event to celebrate 150 years of AFL football. All students dressed up in their chosen teams AFL colours and participated in footy focussed classroom activities. The day was also a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis research and we raised great funds to assist them to find a cure. The highlight of the day was the inaugural Staff v Students footy match at lunchtime. It was a highly skilled and tough affair. At the end of the match, the teams could not be separated with an 8.5 a piece draw. Best on ground performances were from Josh, captain of the student side and Mr Whiteside whose height and presence around the field was very intimidating for the students. We wish Miss Eddy a speedy recovery from her comical ‘in the pack injury’ and commend her on her ability to re-enter the game in the second half! Thank you to Tony for his umpiring expertise and Joel for his fantastic commentary.
